Perhaps one reason we tend to be sedentary and to focus so much on our food is that our worlds are too small.

Getting involved in missions bigger than ourselves will get us out of our lethargy and busy doing something that is truly fulfilling — not just filling.  Where can you start?

Church is an excellent place. Most have lots of jobs and not enough people willing to volunteer to fill them.  Can you teach Sunday school?  Take part in nursing home ministries?  Visit members in the hospital?  Volunteer to help with outreach ministries?  If your church doesn’t have any outreach ministries, maybe you can be the one to get one started.  There are plenty of needs and needy people in the world. You can be one who makes a difference!

A note to our junior members: Those who have young children at  home are already involved in an important church ministry — raising those children for Him!  Don’t be discouraged if you don’t have the time or ability to do extra things right now.  The empty nest season will roll around soon enough and you will have the opportunity to serve in a different way.  What you are doing now certainly makes a difference, too!

And another quick thought — doing good works gives satisfaction and a special fulfillment.  It does NOT earn you salvation or brownie points with the Lord.  We only come to Him in one way.  Here’s a link that explains what I mean: Click here to see my message about God. Serving is our privilege and we are the ones who benefit most.

Eating to live and living for Christ,
