The liberal soul shall be made fat and he that watereth shall be watered himself.  Prov. 11:225

Sometimes I wonder if weight issues don’t go along with hoarding issues — which come down to problem with trust.  If we don’t really trust God to take care of our needs, we feel the urge to squirrel things away in case we lack them.  What if our comfort is in some way compromised?

There is an element, too, of eating while we can. This is especially true when you are planning on going on a healthy eating plan.  We fear the loss of our comforting foods and the stimulation the pleasure centers in our brains receive.  We try to save it up — which doesn’t work.

The good news is that when you trust the Lord to meet all your needs — including your need for comfort — you don’t feel driven to turn to food.  Focus on growing “fat” spiritually and you may find the insatiable urge to eat will fade. Focus on giving and you may really understand what it is to be satisfied.

Eating to live and living for Christ,
