Happy Thanksgiving to my faithful readers! I am personally thankful for each of you.
Enjoy your friends and family today. And plan ahead for the temptations that lie ahead. Maybe you have given yourself permission to take the day off from your healthy eating plan. That’s fine — just remember that it is a day off and not the start of a sabbatical. One day won’t kill you, but indulging until the new year might!
My suggestion is to enjoy the food. Eat it slowly. Chew. Savor the tastes and textures. And quit before you are stuffed to the gills. Plan to take a long walk today, or to get some other form of extra exercise.
I also suggest that you give away the bad-for-you leftovers. Keep the turkey for future low glycemic meals, but make sure you don’t wind up with the leftover pie, rolls, mashed potatoes, etc. Only keep the food that will help you on your journey.
If you do this — and if you focus more on the people and less on the meal — you can enjoy the feast and still keep moving toward your goal.
Eating to live and living for Christ,
Susan Jordan Brown
