Bble Lands 2010 414.jpgCertainly one of the most spectacular Roman theaters in Turkey is at Aspendos, not least because the vast majority of it has been preserved or restored and one gets such a clear image of such a gargantuan place.  Here Greek and Roman comedies and tragedies would have been regular fare, and near here, at Perge, Paul landed in Turkey, on the way to Psidian Antioch.  The theater tells us a good deal about how Gentiles viewed life– namely subject to the whims of the gods, or fate,  and largely beyond the individual’s control, leading to life being viewed as a farce or a tragedy in the making.  Here are some of the pictures I took this time at Aspendos….
