The cult of the dead, and the honoring of the dead was of huge importance in all of the Biblical world, including in the Greco-Roman portion of that world. People spent huge sums of money to be buried in prominent places in elaborate sarcophagi,and rock cut tombs, The following pictures as from several sites in the ancient kingdom of Lycia or Lykia, a kingdom which had its own language (not Greek) as the inscriptions show. A lot of the tombs can be seen from the south coast of Turkey, as well as in the little villages that dot the islands and south coast of this beautiful land. Talk about going out in style.
