The last place Paul put into port in Turkey before he headed to Jerusalem on his 3rd missionary journey was Patara (see Acts 21.1). It is an enormous archaeological site at which there is now much restoration work. Among other things the site includes a light house ruin (see below), today called St, Paul’s lighthouse, and it can still be seen from our boat off the coast.
This lighthouse seems to have been built with the help of the patronage of Nero, as the inscription which lies beside it suggests.
