I met this delightful sprite of a woman at Circle Of Miracles a month or so ago, when she accompanied her friend John Davis who came to our community as a speaker. I was moved by the passion and enthusiasm she embodied and knew I needed to find out what was behind it. She is the co-author, with John of the book Signs Along The Path which are snippets of wisdom for guidance and life enrichment.
How do you live your bliss?
Having only recently discovered the alchemy of creating my own life, I wasn’t sure what my bliss was! But now, as I get increasingly closer to it, I realize that my bliss is reached through accepting my godliness, my power to create. Living in nature and animals. Loving, honoring and respecting the people I meet. Shining my own light on them so they can see the switch to turn on their own lights!
Your biz is called Light Seeds..how did that name come to be?
I had been supporting two spiritual workers in my spare time when I was laid off in 2009 from a job I hated (go me!) and realized that supporting holistic/spiritual workers would be the ideal profession for me. Inspiration gave me the name, which at first I thought was to be Life Seeds. I woke one morning “knowing” it was actually Light Seeds. The people I work with as a Virtual Assistant are all sowers of seeds of light – as am I – and all find their own bliss by enlightening, empowering, healing people. Hence the business name of Lightseeds Office. I’m in the midst of writing a book to teach other VAs how to do this work as well, as being a “light farmer” is an unusual occupation!
It seems that you are a balance of left brain, linear, logical and creative curious right brain..how do you blend those worlds?
Good question – I think it’s just how I’m made! A very difficult upbringing with a belief only in the here and now, this is all there is, what you see is what you get, you go to work because it’s what you have to do, served the purpose of teaching me left brain skills. And yet I loved the arts and music as well. As the door opened to spiritual growth, I found my right brain! Now I meditate, write, enjoy spiritual practices, feel deep gratitude for the beauty of our earth, see the inner beauty in people, and so much more! And it is that balance that allows me to serve my clients the way I do – being part of their spiritual “woo-woo” world but connecting with the earth and business practices.
You are in professional partnership with John Davis (a.k.a John of Peniel). Wondering how the two of you connected and began your world changing work together.
It’s a long story, but the short story is this: I’m a renaissance festival junkie, and I’d become acquainted with John at our local festival, where he’d been a comedy performer for many years. I discovered his spiritual side and spoke with him about it, and felt the strong immediate “zing” that told me there was something important there for me. And then the miracle happened:
Years ago, while cleaning the hall after an event I had run, I found a tiny silver ring with a beautiful ivy engraving on it and an inscription of a Bible verse on the inside. I tried for months to find the owner to no avail and something told me to keep it safe.
Several years later, in 2006, the week before the local renaissance festival was to open I was looking for something in the basket where I had years before placed this ring. My fingers touched that lost ring, and I felt a WHOOSH of electrical energy through my body, as if it were charged. I picked it up and for the first time in all those years noticed the inscription on the inside – John 15:5. I looked up the verse: “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who dwells in me and I in him shall have much success.” Totally astounded, I knew without doubt that these words were a message for John, so I e-mailed him to say that I had something to tell him in person. He was intrigued, but after all his amazing spiritual experiences, not surprised, and so we arranged to meet at the festival.
On opening day of the renaissance fair, I was wandering around when John found me, and we went to a relatively quiet area to talk. Shaking with emotion, I pulled out the ring and handed it to him so he could see the inscription. His face went white and he said, “OH my GOD!!” I handed him a small cloth where I’d embroidered the verse so he’d know the reference. He got tears in his eyes and hugged me hard – we were both highly emotional by then! When he calmed a bit, he explained to me that he’d been praying for guidance: Was this the time for him to give up the security of his entertainment profession to do spiritual work full time? Was it time to really step into his mission? And then I showed up with the ring. I cannot express the awe I felt then and still feel when I realize that I was the safe-keeper all those years of this special message meant to support John, held for the time it was intended to be revealed. And in the process, I gained a nickname – Frodo the ring bearer!
How would you describe your spiritual practice?
Eclectic! A melange, a stew of beliefs! I am not a subscriber to religion, which for me is limiting and based on ancient culture and belief systems. I am powerfully, deeply connected to God in my own way. I “try” to meditate daily (“Do or do not, there is no try!”), usually with a guided meditation. I accept my increasing awareness of my intuition and ability to receive spiritual guidance and messages. I don’t follow any spiritual routines, but my deep connection keeps on getting deeper as I follow my Higher Self’s guidance (which I also believe is my jumper cable to God). To me, God is dirt – when my hands are in the dirt, planting and nurturing growing things, there He is with me.
Is there a pivotal moment that leaps out at you when you knew you were living the life of your dreams?
Well, to be very honest I am not yet doing so! But I am so CLOSE! I can’t say that there was a moment as it’s been more of a continuum, a gradual process. But now I live richly, deeply, aware and grateful, with bliss so close I can TASTE it! And OH it tastes wonderful!
What drew you to Renaissance culture?
I honestly don’t know but I believe it’s strong past-life influences. My father, a professional musician, bought me a record (yes, a record, I’m old!) of early Renaissance music when I was 13 – an odd gift! It drew me in even then, and I’ve always listened to early music. In my 30s when I discovered renaissance festivals and adult dress-up, I knew I was home! And that led me to becoming involved with a living history group which studies the arts and sciences of the middle ages, where I learned renaissance era dancing. And now as an avocation, I teach renaissance dance to others.
Please share about your book Signs Along the Path.
Several years ago I spoke with John Davis about the wonderful essays on his website (www.JohnofPeniel.com) and I wanted to find a way to get them into more hands than the internet allows. I described what a book could look like, and he was all for it! I gathered the best of his blog posts, organized them so that they guide the reader along a life path from fear to God and love. Each chapter takes the reader through a journey of personal and spiritual growth, through John’s thoughts, beliefs, and stories from his own life. We wanted it to become the same kind of reference book as the “Chicken Soup for the Soul” books, something that could be a resource in times of stress, and it’s been such a joy to hear people tell us that is exactly what it accomplishes!
