One of the most essential questions you can ask yourself,  is the one presented in the title of this article. We have a choice to experience an existence that takes us from the day of our birth to the day of our death, with the ‘same old, same old’ activities that is about getting by OR we can live a rich, full, juicy life. Filled to overflowing with excitement, magic, bliss of course, possibility and miracles, can be a daily intention. It is mine. It is also that of conscious entrepreneur, Kathy Davis- head Inspirista of Kathy Davis Designs.

I met Kathy many years ago when she had a store in a local mall. Whenever I would walk through the door, I felt as if I was stepping across a portal into a world of wonder. Colorful greeting cards and gifts seemed as if they were dancing on the shelves. When I walked back out, usually with some token of my visit for myself or to give to someone else, I felt as if I was paint splashed. I love soaking in the energy of creative environments. A few years later, I happened to see Kathy there and approached her with the question about being a free lance text writer for her. I had been writing poems and framing them as gifts for family and friends and thought this would be a cool extension of that. She informed me that a few months hence, she was launching a new card line called Tutti-Frutti which sounded whimsical and playful, and that she would let me know when they were having a meeting to discuss it.

When I received the invitation, and met with her creative team, I was astounded to see that I was the only free-lance writer in a room of artists. Within short order, I was teamed with two delightful artists named Viviana and Janet. Thus I was teleported into a six year run of  writing for her company. I was honored and moved by the idea that the cards I penned were given to people all over the world as tokens of love. I never knew where they would end up.

I would like to share a  cool story that was told to me, long after the free-lance program was no more, that let me know that my cards were still in circulation. A friend’s parents were celebrating an anniversary and his girlfriend had purchased a card for them that she thought reflected their relationship. She didn’t know that I had been in this field. When they opened the card, my friend, who had seen my work, was astonished. He asked them to turn the card over and sure enough, my name was imprinted on the back.

Last week, Kathy celebrated 25 years in business, which is quite something to acknowledge, since many businesses don’t have that type of longevity. I attribute it to a number of factors.

Commitment to an ideal of  quality in her product lines.

Excitement about her work.

A solid team around her that are family of choice.

A relationship with her persistent creative Muse.

Being of service and donating to charities.

Innovation and ongoing growth.

Being genuine.

A good reputation in the local and world community.

A desire to live her business branding:  Scatter Joy~

She has written a lovely book called Scatter Joy: Living, Giving and Creating A Life That You Love. It is a beautiful telling of her life and sets the stage for her personal and professional joys and challenges. Imagine scooping up bubbles or flower petals and blowing them out into the world. How wondrous would that be? We don’t know where they will land and maybe that is part of the adventure. Her artwork is also scattered throughout the book, as well as notable quotes that highlight them.

I  paged through this rainbow hued tome quickly as if scarfing down a favorite treat, finishing it today while I was on the recumbent elliptical at cardiac rehab. It occurred to me that what Kathy included in the book were activities and attitudes that have been part of my life for decades. I have created a life that I love and celebrate it daily.

How do you create a life that YOU love?
