Two of the most majestic words in the English language that can be used to create or destroy are ‘what if?’ We say them or at least, think them, over and over throughout our day. Unfortunately they are often self sabotaging and downright virulent. What if I fail the test, don’t get the job, experience unrequited love? I would rather turn it around and ask, “What if I pass the test, get hired for the job and allow for full rich loving relationships?” What if today is the day when my dreams turn into reality? What if it really is all ok, as is, on life’s terms? To paraphrase Byron Katie, “If I argue with what is, I lose; but only all the time.” Pretty simple wisdom.
Last night, my friend Sandy spoke about a book called What If It All Goes Alright?, written by Mindy Audlin. She created the book with a strengths based concept in mind. In the midst of life challenge, it is often difficult to pose that question, but pose it, we must if we want to live the life of our dreams and not our nightmares.
I like to say that worry is waste of imagination, because the chattering monkey mind LOVES it and feeds on it, ad infinitum, with thoughts spinning out of control in the ‘shoulda would coulda’ realm. Sandy proposed the idea that in addition to What If Up that Mindy shares, she encourages people to ask the question: “What if…Wow?!” , adding that extra zip to it. What if I have the life of my dreams? What if the partner, the home, job/school flow into place? I love that idea since I have an unlimited imagination….What if I get to choose my reality? What if everything I need is right here for me and all I have to do is reach out and receive it? What if I am always at the right place at the right time for connecting with exactly who would most be of mutual benefit to meet? What if there are no limits to manna-festing the life of my dreams and desires? As I am typing these words, I can feel a rush of exhiliration and a resounding YES! bounding through me. I am convinced that the Universe has an intelligence that KNOWS the path on which we are placed, the trajectory on which we are headed and what experiences would be to our greatest benefit.
