As The Christophers say “It’s better light one candle than curse the darkness.” Here are some lit candles.

WinCatherine seeks to go the distance. The documentary tells the inspirational story of  Wincatherine Nyambura Ndereba. Growing up inKenya, she put her faith in God to overcome extreme poverty and become the only woman  to ever win the Boston Marathon 4 times. Next month, at the age of 38, she’s going for her fifth victory (after suffering an unexpected injury last year).  To cover the event (and complete this phase of filming), $4000 dollars in additional funding is needed.  Producer-director Stefani L. Weiss is going the grass roots route to raise the money. You can view the trailer and decide if you want to help here.
(Note: An earlier version of this blog misidentified Wincatherine’s age as 39 and suggested that $4000 currently sought is for the final phase of production when, in fact, this is not the final phase. The producer, not wanting to mislead anyone, informed me of the errors and I am grateful to her for that.)

Truth Be Told to debut on Fox. The family-friendly romantic comedy, the latest film to be produced via an alliance between Walmart and P&G, stars Candace Cameron Bure (Full House), David James Elliott (JAG) and Ronny Cox (Stargate SG-1)  and is set to air on Saturday, April 16th @ 8:00 PM (ET).
The plot, sort of parable that plays  off  the old adage that “Honesty is the best policy,” follows the misadventures of Annie Morgan (Bure) who convinces an old college friend Mark Crane (Elliott) to pretend to be her husband as part of a plan to secure her dream job of hosting a radio advice program. Crane is a widower with two teen daughters whose lives Morgan also becomes involved with while executing her scam.
Previous productions of the Walmart-P&G partnership include Secrets of the Mountain, The Jensen Project, A Walk in My Shoes and Change of Plans.

Rick Schroder’s family affair. The former star of Silver Spoons and NYPD Blue has written, directed and produced Wild Hearts, a movie in which he co-stars with his 14-year-old daughter. His three other kids and his wife (who also produced) are also in the cast.
The story concerns a young girl from Malibu who seeks out the father she never knew — who ends up being a cowboy in the Sierra Nevada mountains.
The Schroders decided to finance the film themselves and are seeking a distributor. Rick is even interested in following the characters via a TV series.

The Human Experience on DVD. The award-winning 2009 film from a little company that could is now available on DVD.
The documentary follows a group of young men who travel the world in an effort to better connect with and understand the true essence of the human spirit. The journey brings them into contact with some of society’s most forgotten members, including the homeless of New York, orphans and handicapped children in Peru and isolated Ghanaian lepers.
The film incorporates commentary from such spiritual leaders as Anna Halpine, Dr. William Hurlbut, Rabbi Simon Jacobson, Dr. Alveeda King and the late Rev. Richard Neuhaus.
Denver Archbishop Charles J. Chaput has called the production “an astonishing witness to the beauty of the human person under the most trying conditions,” adding “For anyone committed to the cause of human dignity, or simply hungry to again see the beauty in life, it shouldn’t be missed.” View trailer.

Green Grouch sparks environmental war in Canada. Well, war, is actually a strong word. Actually it’s more of a friendly competition in which Alberta communities are competing to become the greenest of the green. Losing cities, of course, will merely be green envy. Individuals can also join the Green Grouch Environmental Initiative.  Listen to the Green Grouch in his own words here.
