Supreme Court dismisses challenge to In God We Trust on U.S. currency. But atheist Michael Newdow aims to continue his crusade against the phrase saying “I plan on bringing the lawsuit again on behalf of other Americans who
believe they are injured when the government lends its power to one side
of the controversy over whether or not God exists.”
I just have to wonder if he’ll also set his sights on Xing out the phrases “endowed by our Creator” from the Declaration of Independence
and “in the year of Our Lord” from the U.S. Constitution. The fact is our
country was founded on the belief in a Higher Power which each
individual is free to interpret and believe in (or not) in his or her
own way. It is that revolutionary belief that human rights stem directly and irrevocably from
God (and aren’t bestowed from, or through the whims of, earthly kings or governments)
that actually protects us from both theocratic and secular tyranny.
CNN sheds light on modern-day slavery and human trafficking. A very important moral issue that doesn’t get nearly enough attention. CNN deserves credit for taking it on.
