Benedict XVI warns that technology is no replacement for God. So, let me get this straight. Access to a Blackberry and Google isn’t the same as ultimate power over the universe? Good to know.

Meanwhile…

Are smartphones making us dumb? A study finds that all that texting, tweeting and friending may actually be reducing our collective attention spans. Having information at our fingertips isn’t the same thing as intelligence — or wisdom. That’s why we must always remember to keep material things in… Excuse me, while I answer this.

Positive African-American TV network planned. Bounce TV, the brainchild of Martin Luther King III, former Atlanta Mayor Andrew Young and others, is seeking broadcast (rather than cable) distribution. Fox-owned MyNetwork would seem to be a good possibility that apparently nobody has mentioned. MyNetwork, BTW, would also be a good home for a family-themed network featuring P&G/Walmart-sponsored shows. There’s no real family network out there. ABC Family really targets teens. Perhaps, Bounce, P&G, Walmart and Fox could all work together to provide a venue for positive ethnically-diverse family-suitable programming.  Anyway, almost anything would be more interesting than the slate of reruns the program service carries now. Just thinking out loud here.
