I couldn’t let the final night of Andy Rooney’s weekly commentary on 60 Minutes go without commenting.

Rooney was enjoyable, even Jerry Seinfeld-like when doing segments on simple day-to-day matters. At his best, there was genius in his simplicity.

When he went on to larger issues, however, like war and other social matters he showed his true liberal colors.

Much like his employer.

60 Minutes would have been better off sticking to “light” topics like entertainment and sports a long time ago.

I say that because the program lost fair-minded people like me a long time ago, particularly when it came to reporting on the war in Iraq during the second Bush presidency.

Not a WEEK went by when 60 Minutes wouldn’t knock ‘W’ or the effort of our troops for what it saw as a misguided effort.

It was disgusting.

Now a president and at least one more war later, Libya, and we see nary a feature on our engagement in Libya.

Where is the fairness CBS and 60 Minutes?

Andy Rooney was right to finally leave … it’s time for 60 Minutes to do the same.
