When I was a kid growing up I noticed a neighbor of mine used to watch The 700 Club.

It was a little odd in that I thought “church stuff” like that was just for Sunday mornings.

I couldn’t see why somebody would want to watch Christian programming in the middle of the week.

Not to say she was perfect, no one is, but as I reflect on it now her family-owned bakery often gave us free rolls and pastries.

It was a big help to my parents, who for some reason decided to have FIVE boys and became lower-middle class because of it. (Well, they didn’t decide on boys, but you get the drift…).

Anyway, her family was better than decent and very good neighbors that we treasured like discovering the custard in the middle of one their donuts.

They didn’t change much and neither has The 700 Club, which is a good thing.

From Pat Robertson, to his son Gordon the show instills in its viewers the value of Christian living.

The program, which airs on different stations and times throughout the country, has news and other features like other shows but The 700 Club does things from a Christian perspective.

That doesn’t mean segments are cleaned up, quite the contrary the program has pieces on people who overcome drug and alcohol addiction, demonic possession and the abject poverty that many live-in throughout the world.

For those who believe in the power of prayer and Jesus, The 700 Club is worthwhile programming. For those who don’t, it is well worth considering a look.
