Matt Lauer is tired, literally, of the Today Show on NBC.
The co-host with newly promoted Ann Curry, is reportedly weary of getting up at 4 a.m. for work and may leave the top-ranked morning show.
NBC may look to make a splash with the opening, apparently showing interest in American Idol’s Ryan Seacrest, according to mediaite.com.
The move could bring a younger demographic to the program, not a bad idea, and Seacrest is telegenic.
The negatives outweigh the positives to me, however, as Seacrest would be a tough fit with Curry.
The over-enunciating E! host could also lose some of his appeal in the morning as he reportedly is leery about early a.m. hours.
And gravitas?
Does Seacrest have that necessary quality to replace Lauer, who is the face of the show?
Stay tuned … but first … this is Today …
