The NFL got its labor situation settled just in time.

Not just for the season, but with plenty of time to air ads intended to create or reestablish goodwill with its fans.

Roger Goodell

You have probably seen the ads already, where a football gets passed around from all kinds of ordinary folks and eventually winds up on a professional field.

Well, the spots are sappy, drippy and a bit of a reach … but they do tug at the heartstrings a bit.

And most importantly, they work to serve as a reminder that “football is your country”, as Carroll O’Connor once said in his role on All in the Family.

Say what you will about NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, but he has the leading sports product in America.

The league averted a potentially horrible work-stoppage with a new labor deal with the players.

Et tu, NBA?
