It’s a lot to put on a young man, but Washington Nationals pitcher Stephen Strasburg is THE  future of Major League Baseball.

The 23-year-old also owns part of its present, as well, judging by Tuesday night’s outing, shown at least in part on the MLB Network.

Stephen Strasburg

Despite the ongoing exciting race between the Yankees and Red Sox and a series between NL East rivals the Braves and Phillies, Strasburg was still the top story of the night for making his first start in over a year.

Apparently fully recovered from Tommy John surgery took command of the mound and the Dodgers for five innings, allowing just two hits while fanning four batters.

Strasburg’s rookie season was all too short after he won 5 of 8 decisions with an ERA below 3.00. His second season will only consist of four starts.

Too bad.

Here’s hoping for better things for Strasburg, because as he prospers so will baseball.
