The sun has always intrigued astronomers. Now, a new development has scientists puzzled and could be a sign of the End Times. A large part of the sun broke off its surface, creating a tornado-like swirl around its North Pole. Scientists are trying to analyze how this happened, and a video of the event has shocked the space community.

NASA’s James Webb telescope captured the phenomenon, and Dr. Tamitha Skov, a space weather forecaster, shared the video on Twitter. The sun emits solar flares, or prominence, that can affect communications with Earth, which is why scientists are deeply concerned about this latest development.

Dr. Skov tweeted, “Talk about Polar Vortex! Material from a northern prominence just broke away from the main filament & is now circulating in a massive polar vortex around the north pole of our star. Implications for understanding the sun’s atmospheric dynamics above 55 degrees here cannot be overstated!”

NASA says this prominence is a significant bright feature extending from the sun’s surface. There have been several similar instances in the past, but this one has stumped the scientific community. In a follow-up tweet, Dr. Skov said, “More observations of the #SolarPolarVortex reveal it took roughly 8 hours for material to circumnavigate the pole at approximately 60-degree latitude. This means an upper bound in the estimation of horizontal wind speed in this event is 96 kilometers per second or 60 miles a second!”

Solar physicist Scott McIntosh of the U.S. National Centre for Atmospheric Research, who has been observing the sun for decades, told Space.com that he had never seen a “vortex” like the one that occurred when a piece of the prominence broke away and was whipped into the solar atmosphere.

Space scientists are now analyzing the strange event to gather more details and present a clearer picture. The book of Revelation mentions the sun and moon more than once. Revelation 16:8 says that a fourth angel poured out his bowl on the sun and was allowed to scorch people with fire. Meanwhile, Revelation 8:12 says, “The fourth angel sounded his trumpet, and a third of the sun was struck, a third of the moon, and a third of the stars, so that a third of them turned dark. A third of the day was without light, and also a third of the night.”

Though scientists are stumped about this phenomenon, perhaps the sun is breaking off, as stated in Revelation. If that’s the case, we should all brace ourselves for the End Times to commence. This event is the latest in what some believe is the start of the End Times, from locusts swarming in the plains of the U.S. to natural disasters occurring more frequently.

Though there’s no harm in living in fear, being prepared is nothing wrong. We should all ensure that we have a proper relationship with God so He can take us with Him when the Rapture occurs. God wants His people to live with Him in heaven, so if we’re living right with Him, He’ll provide us with a home in heaven where we can walk around all day.
