Spirituality and religion both explore the mysteries of life. They go about it, however, in completely different ways.

Religion says there is one truth.
Spirituality says there is a unique truth within each of us.

Spirituality emphasizes the questions.
Religion emphasizes the answers.

Religion embraces uniformity.
Spirituality embraces individuality.

Spirituality requires personal responsibility.
Religion requires following the rules of another.

Religion is static.
Spirituality evolves.

Religion is ritualistic.
Spirituality is every minute, every day.

Spirituality rewards with personal growth.
Religion threatens for noncompliance.

Spirituality demands finding your own voice.
Religion demands following the voice of another.

Religion needs to be right.
Spirituality learns from being wrong.

Spirituality listens.
Religion speaks.
