Just weeks earlier, Dion took to Instagram with a video revealing that she has been diagnosed with a rare neurological disorder called Stiff Person Syndrome which resulted in her announcing the postponement of her European tour dates. The Cleveland Clinic described the disorder as “a rare autoimmune movement disorder that affects the central nervous system (the brain and spinal cord).” Dion is roughly one in a million people to be diagnosed with this, the Cleveland Clinic explained how this disorder begins showing itself by saying the person, “first experiences a stiffening of the muscles of their trunk followed, over time, by the development of stiffness and rigidity in the legs and other muscles in the body.” The singer spoke about how the diagnosis has begun affecting her, stating that she has been suffering muscle spasms that have made it difficult for her to walk and sing. “I’m working hard with my sports medicine therapist every day to build back my strength and my ability to perform again,” Dion said. “But I have to admit it’s been a struggle. All I know is singing. It’s what I’ve done all my life. And it’s what I love to do the most.”
