Candace Cameron Bure, beloved for her role as DJ Tanner on Full House and Fuller House, recently shared an emotional response to the heartbreaking news of her co-star Dave Coulier’s cancer diagnosis. Coulier, 65, was diagnosed with stage 3 non-Hodgkin lymphoma but remains optimistic as he undergoes treatment.
In an interview with Fox News Digital, Cameron Bure opened up about the moment she learned of Coulier’s diagnosis and how her faith has been her anchor during this difficult time.
“A cancer diagnosis is so difficult,” she said. “It felt devastating when Dave and Melissa [Coulier] called and let us all know personally before it went out to press. But we know that the cancer he has is very treatable, and many people have gone into remission for many, many years. It feels very hopeful.”
However, the reality of the situation didn’t fully sink in for Cameron Bure until weeks later, as she watched Coulier begin his chemotherapy journey. “When you see him start losing his hair, that’s when it kind of hit me,” she admitted through tears. “You don’t want to think about it… But we’re all here for him.”
Cameron Bure’s steadfast faith has been her greatest source of strength throughout Coulier’s battle. “I told Dave and Mel the best way I can support you is to pray for you every day,” she shared. “Dave loves to handle things through humor, and we’ve had moments of laughter, but my faith is where my strength lies. I’m praying every single day.”
As her faith continues to guide her, Cameron Bure has long been a vocal advocate for bringing Christian values into Hollywood. Reflecting on her career and the challenges of staying true to her beliefs in the entertainment industry, she said, “My faith is who I am. It’s the foundation of everything. I carry it with me wherever I go.”
In addition to supporting her co-star through prayer, Cameron Bure has been leading the charge for quality faith-based entertainment. She currently serves as Chief Content Officer for Great American Media and has been instrumental in producing family-friendly content.
“We need this content,” she emphasized. “Audiences are showing up because they want stories that align with their values. I’m proud to be part of the movement elevating faith-based programming to the same level as other mainstream productions.”
Cameron Bure also used the moment to address the stigma surrounding mental health within the Christian community. Drawing from her own struggles with depression, she offered practical advice to those battling health challenges, whether physical or emotional.
“If I were diagnosed with cancer, I’d still see a doctor,” she said. “God can perform miracles, but that doesn’t mean we don’t use the resources He’s given us. It’s okay to go to therapy if you’re struggling. Seeking help doesn’t mean you have less faith; it means you’re taking care of yourself in the way God intends.”
As Coulier begins his treatment, the Full House cast remains tightly knit, rallying around him with love, humor, and prayer. John Stamos even shared a lighthearted moment with Coulier by donning a bald cap in solidarity. “Dave thought it was hilarious,” Cameron Bure recalled with a smile.
For Cameron Bure, faith remains the cornerstone of her life and the greatest gift she can offer her dear friend. “God loves a childlike faith,” she reflected. “And that’s what I hold on to every day — trusting in Him and praying for those I love.”
