That seems to be the theme of Evan Almighty, the sequel to Bruce Almighty. And I suspect it’s a question many of us have wondered about — certainly those of us who have felt called, however improbably, to a religious vocation.

The trailer looks hilarious (you can see it below) and I’m now bracing myself for PTD (Post Trailer Disappointment.) We’ve all experienced that: seeing a movie and realizing, about 30 minutes in, that the best two minutes of the movie were the two minutes in the trailer.

I hope “Evan” is different. (I was surprised to see a full page ad for the movie on the back page of my diocesan paper, the Brooklyn Tablet.) But as someone who loved Bruce Almighty (despite the slightly-too-cute idea of the protagonist being in love with a woman named Grace), I’m rooting for “Evan.” Watch the trailer and see what you think.
