The movie version of the Pulitzer Prize-winning play “Doubt” is opening later this fall, and the first trailer is now up for viewing. The play, set in 1964, tells the provocative story of a priest suspected of sexual impropriety, and the nun — played in the film by Meryl Streep — determined to destroy him.

For those seeking yet another layer to the saga, the play’s author John Patrick Shanley has said that the story was inspired not only by the growing sex abuse crisis in 2002, but also by another event unfolding at the same time: America’s march to war with Iraq. How much do we really know? How certain are we of what is true?

Check out the trailer. It looks awfully good.
