When this item popped up on the wires the other day, it sounded like a clever idea:

A new website was launched today which endeavors to ignite some Catholic enthusiasm and devotion onto your computer’s desktop. Catholic Desktops wants to help inspire your daily computer life by providing it with fun, cool and faithful computer icons, web templates and iPhone wallpapers.

In an era when sitting at the computer is the daily grind, we hope to add a little spirit to your desktop with our Catholic Web icon and template collections!

Designed specially to promote Catholic devotion in a Web 2.0 World, our icons can be used in a variety of commercial or personal works and web development projects.

The icons were developed by a Catholic Mother, Lisa Johnston who noticed a lack of things fun and totally Catholic on her computer screen:

“I have a rosary, holy cards and a big picture of the Sacred Heart on my desk, but there was nothing but software icons staring at me from my computer screen. One day I made a few desktop icons for my friends and myself to share and they were a hit. After some further inspiration and a lot of prayer, we decided to share these fun graphics with the rest of the world through Catholic Desktops.”

The goal of Catholic Desktops is to inspire folks in their own daily devotional life. Having an icon of your favorite saint with you everyday can be motivational. It may even spark an evangelization or vocational effort. In fact, there is an icon pack devoted solely to habited Nun Religious communities.

“These Nuns are among some of the most exciting and thriving communities currently being overwhelmed with vocations and we thought it might be nice to showcase their beautiful habits and their wonderful prayerful souls!”

There are also icons of Saints, monastic religious and the Holy Father himself! Wallpapers for your iPhone encourage you to “stop, breathe and pray” before you answer a call.

So I paid a visit to the website offering the icons. I was charmed to discover they have 13 icons for clergy, including several variations for priests and monsignors.

But…but…

No deacons??!!

UPDATE: Behold! The good people behind the website have now added deacons! :
