From Michigan comes this poignant story that celebrates motherhood, miracles — and life:

For most mothers, hearing that your 15-month-old daughter needs open-heart surgery would be no Mother’s Day gift.

But when Algonac’s Katie Larrison got that news on Thursday morning, it was a dream come true.

It’s a Mother’s Day miracle, Larrison wrote in an online message to friends.

A miracle she never let herself believe would come. Maybe she should have.

Little Mira Larrison has defied the odds at every turn. She has survived longer than anyone else documented with her rare mix of medical challenges.

She has survived a heart procedure in the womb, three open-heart surgeries, chemotherapy and more. She had been on the heart transplant list since December because the pressure on her lungs was too high for heart surgery to be an option.

But this week, what doctors at C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital in Ann Arbor found shocked them. The pressure had returned to normal, making heart surgery possible. For now, Mira is off the transplant list.

Today, Katie Larrison will enjoy her special day as the mother of two sweet girls, believing in miracles and even more prayerful that this is not the last year she can say that.

Read it all. It’s really something.
