So sang the thousands of young people who gathered last weekend at Six Flags Over Texas for the Lone Star State’s World Youth Day. You can get a taste of what they experienced by visiting this link and watching a short video.
It’s mighty impressive.  Anyone who thinks the Church is in trouble can’t help but be heartened by the enthusiasm, joy and energy of that crowd.

On top of all that was the University of Dallas Ministry Conference:

The 2010 University of Dallas Ministry Conference, co-sponsored by the Dioceses of Fort Worth and Dallas, attracted an estimated 6,000 attendees to the 2-day gathering at the Dallas Convention Center. The conference, which strives to deepen and develop our relationship with God through strong ministries, kicked off with a spiritually uplifting keynote address by Cardinal Daniel DiNardo, the cardinal of the Galveston/Houston Diocese. The concluding Mass was con-celebrated by Bishop Vann and Dallas Bishop Kevin Farrell and priests and deacons who were present.

In other news, the statistics at the website for the Fort Worth diocese include the following interesting numbers:

562,000 Catholics

123 Priests

110 Permanent Deacons

29 Seminarians

89 Parishes

By that count, that comes to an average of over 6,000 people per parish.
