Anyone curious about what SSPX thinks about the Pope’s recent decision to lift their bishops’ excommunication should take a glance at the SSPX literature.

They contend they were…

a) never really excommunicated.

b) not really in schism.

But wait, there’s more. They are looking forward to “talks” (yes, really, the scare quotes are theirs) in which they can explain to the Holy See what led them down this path.

All this, and they have not recanted any of their positions — which include a refusal to recognize the validity of Vatican II.

I’m reminded of something a priest once said, describing a particular kind of audacity.

“That,” he said, “shows testicular magnitude.”

Yes. That about says it.
