Have you ever looked in the mirror and not recognized the stranger staring back at you? As time passes, our faces and bodies begin to change as they age. While you might still feel like you’re still in your twenties, you aren’t. Your face and body can make that very clear.
However, you don’t necessarily have to accept your fate. While you might choose to grow old gracefully, it doesn’t mean that there aren’t things you can do to make yourself look a little younger.
- Start at the top
A human feature that is quick to give your age away is your hair. Graying hair and thinning hair are common as you grow older.
What can you do about it?
- You can color the gray out of your hair or have highlights that mask the gray. However, take note that gray hair is very fashionable right now. Women are going to their hairdresser, asking to have their hair dyed gray. So, you’ve got one up on them already.
- Take supplements for thinning hair or treatments for alopecia to stop further hair loss. Consider supplementing your diet with vitamins for optimal health, which are also good for your hair, skin, and nails.
- Talk the talk
Teeth also age. As you get older, they might start yellowing, or they become fragile and susceptible to damage. You might not have been able to have your crooked teeth corrected when you were younger. Whatever the problem is, people that don’t feel good about their teeth tend to be very self-conscious about them.
What can you do about it?
- You could have your teeth whitened professionally.
- You might be able to get your crooked teeth straightened with orthodontics like braces. New braces technology means not having rail track metal braces on the teeth. You could get Invisalign clear aligners which are more discreet.
- Before you get braces, you might need to have jaw surgery. The jaw and teeth are realigned to help them work together properly. A more well-defined jaw can also enhance the face’s aesthetic.
- Take another look
Our eyes age as well, and soon, we need reading glasses, or we develop distance vision problems. Refusing to wear glasses because they make you look older will only worsen the problem. The constant eye strain results in further vision weakening.
What can you do about it?
- For distance vision problems, swap your glasses for contact lenses. Alternatively, you can go for laser surgery to have your vision corrected. It is life-altering for many patients who go from being unable to see a few feet in front of them to having perfect distance vision.
- When it comes to your reading glasses, choose modern, funky frames to maintain a youthful look.
- The skin you’re in
The skin becomes less elastic as we grow older. It is drier and more prone to fine lines and wrinkles than it was when we were younger. Frown lines and crow’s feet are common.
What can you do about it?
- It might be time to change your skincare routine. The products you used in your twenties won’t be beneficial anymore. Use age-appropriate products that offer deeper moisturizing, hydrating, and firmness properties.
- If you feel that the skincare products you buy aren’t working, you can look at remedies such as filler injections like Botox. Or you could consult a plastic surgeon about having a facelift. If you decide to pursue one of these options, go into it with your eyes open. You must know about risks and have realistic expectations of the result.
