Overeating is a form of self anesthesia. What we’re trying to do is
find other non-destructive methods to feel better. Here are some other,
less self-destructive ideas for managing the pain and difficulties of
living:
Try moving. Flexing your muscles and liberating your bones really makes
you feel good. In other words, exercise! Go for a walk, take a yoga
class, or dance a little to some lively music.
Deep breathing is good. Oxygenating your blood is a terrific analgesic.
Take 16 deep breaths, holding for 3 seconds at the end of every
inhalation and exhalation.
Herbs can be soothing, too. I like comfrey tea or chamomile.
Or an old-fashioned remedy: lie down with a cool compress on your
forehead.
