Soda, the usual kind, carries lots of calories and no nutrition.  I’ve written many times before: if you can manage to give up a daily soda you might lose 5-10 pounds in a month.  The problem is, if you are a soda-lover, it may be hard to give up soda entirely.  Until now.

Here are my simple recipes for homemade, healthier soda.  Why are they healthier?  They’re relatively low-calorie, have no added sugar, and actually contain some nutrients.

Dr. Norris Chumley’s Fruit Soda

1 oz. (a shot glass) of fruit juice (pure juice, not “juice drink”) my favorites are orange, raspberry, black cherry, pomegranite.

8 oz. glass of seltzer (not club soda, which contains salt)

Dr. Norris Chumley’s Lemonade Soda

1 packet (a teaspoon) of Stevia extract natural sweetener
2 tablespoons lemon juice, from a fresh lemon or bottled pure lemon juice.
1 16 oz. glass of seltzer

Add some crushed-ice and stir.
