Word came out a few weeks ago that there was a study conducted on a link between 2 or more sugared sodas a week, and cancer, pancreatic cancer to be specific.  This is an aggressive one, and very difficult to cure.

The study was conducted by the Cancer Control Program at Georgetown University Medical Center, Washington, D.C. and published in Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention, a journal of the American Association for Cancer Research.  It utilized study of 60,524 men and women enrolled in the Singapore Chinese Health Study, begun in 1993.  Here’s an article on it from WebMD.

While the beverage industry is claiming the study to be flawed, it is worth considering.  The general connection between sugar in soda, and high consumption of refined/added sugar with a lot of different diseases is clear.  It causes obesity, which causes a host of problems: coronary heart disease and vascular disease, certain cancers of the digestive system, diabetes among a few.

So be warned – don’t drink sugared soda much, if at all.  Don’t eat or drink a lot of sugary foods or products with added sugar!   There was no mention of fruit juices, and high consumption of sugar from fruit, but it makes sense to limit those too, in my opinion.
