We received news in the last few days that President Obama had his annual checkup this past Sunday in Washington, D.C. As the American president, he is required by the military to do this once a year. After 90 minutes with his physician, with multiple tests and examinations, the president was declared “healthy.”
At 48, 179 pounds and just over 6 feet tall, he is athletic. He has a resting heart rate of 56 beats per minute, which is great. His total cholesterol is a bit high according to the newest standards, likely due to him smoking occasionally and a proclivity for “cheeseburgers, fries and desserts,” according to his press secretary, Robert Gates. President Obama did say to the cameras on the way back from his exam that he had to stop eating so many desserts.
I applaud our president not only for getting his annual physical exam, but also for admitting he’s struggling with imperfect eating and occasional cigarettes. He’s human. He’s doing his best, but slips a bit, just like me.
Here’s a report of his exam from the Examiner.
