Did you hear about the professor of nutrition who recently lost 27 pounds by eating only Twinkies, candy bars, Doritos, and anything he could find in a convenience store?

Sounds incredible doesn’t it? How could anyone totally abandon all known notions of “healthy eating” still lose weight, and theoretically remain healthy? Especially someone trained in healthy eating – a so-called nutrition expert!

Professor Mark Haub, of Kansas State Univesity had a point to make The trick was that he stayed on a low-calorie program. He kept his junk food to a maximum of 1,800 calories per day. He stopped eating meats, fruit and whole grains. That combination caused him to lose the weight. He was trying to show the world that it doesn’t matter what you eat, it’s all about how much. All about calorie-counting.

He said he was trying to understand how he could be “eating healthfully,” and still not losing excess weight. It’s all about the calories, he claims.

I think that’s correct. It IS about how many calories per day one consumes. Hopefully, though, weight loss and health is also about eating more vegetables, low fat foods, whole grains, and less saturated and even unsaturated fats.
