The ancient Jesus Prayer, “Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner,” is the long form of “Lord Have Mercy,” which is a phrase thought (by some) to have originated with the Apostles.  Monks, nuns and members of some churches have prayer the Jesus Prayer for centuries.  Others have never heard of it.
