Bible scholars recognize two distinct accounts of creation in Genesis. In the first chapter of Genesis through chapter 2:3, God renders the common noun, Elohim.

As for the second account, the beginning of human history, God renders Yahweh in the Hebrew.

For right reasoning, the two accounts can’t be blended any more than I can blend my spiritual existence with the birth of my physical cats.

When I keep this in mind, I don’t get trapped in the dead end reasoning that only echoes physical science.

Scientists theorize about the Big Bang and this talk can suck spiritual thinkers in.

I heard a religious person describe the first chapter of Genesis. She said, In the beginning there was empty space, vacant and brooding darkness before it exploded into light, life, and form.”

What?

This description alludes to the Big Bang. It suggests that there was a beginning, which in turn means there will be an end to God’s creation. I question this religious view just as much as I question the physical scientist’s view, What was before the big bang? Where did the big bang come from?

Cultures around the world have documented myths and accounts of how we got here. I can learn from them, however, my mindfulness has greater depth when I recall what Mary Baker Eddy wrote, “The infinite has no beginning. This word beginning is employed to signify the only.”

To recognize an infinite releases me from arguing between creationism and evolution. In the eternal, I can experience evolving progress or unfoldment of spirituality. I also have less fear of the physical.

Spiritual thinkers can’t think from the standpoint of physical science. We must start with the infinite.
