Here are today’s dispatch from the crossroads of faith, media and culture.

The Day the Sun Danced. Today (October 13) is the 94th anniversary of an event known as the “Miracle of the Sun,”  the spectacular 1917 event that marked the final apparition of the Virgin Many in Fatima, Portugal to Francisco and Jacinta Marto and their cousin, Lucia dos Santo. On that day, 70,000 reportedly gathered in the countryside to witness a predicted miracle and many apparently got one.

From FatimaForToday.com:

Many of those gathered saw the sun spinning in the sky, and then saw it break loose and zig-zag toward the earth, looking as if it would fall upon the people. Those gathered fell to the ground praying for mercy. Even secular and government newspaper reports tell of the Miracle of the Sun.

Developed by Ignatius Press, FatimaForToday.com soon will provide study guides to accompany Fatima for Today and two landmark films produced by Ian and Dominic Higgins – The 13th Day and Finding Fatima. The free study guides, written by Marian expert and well-known Catholic author Mark Shea, will be available for download as PDF files beginning Oct. 20th from FatimaForToday.com. Visitors also will find information on a variety of books and videos on Our Lady of Fatima.
