Christian hip hop artist Hulvey has scored a cross-genre success with his debut album Christopher which just landed at No. #8 on the Billboard Top Christian/Gospel Albums chart and #19 at Rap Albums chart. The record has already garnered almost 4 million streams across all digital service providers.
Christopher is a 12-track project that features guest vocals by two time Grammy award-winner Lecrae, pop sensation SVRCINA, fellow Christian hip-hop artist Andy Mineo and Atlanta-based rapper BigBreeze.
As I said in last week’s post featuring my interview with Hulvey, the 22-year-old has quickly become one of Christian music’s rising acts and has come a long way since scrubbing toilets in Publix grocery market. In Christopher, Hulvey’s lyrics take listeners on his life journey from being an adolescent teen in high school, to seeing the importance of community and mentorship and the freedom and deliverance he has found through his Christian faith.
Christopher is the follow up full- length project to his extended play release BRKNHRT that was released in 2020 and immediately garnered him national praise with Pandora naming him a “Christian Artist to Watch.” That same year his tracks Higher and Real Love from were featured on VH1’s Love and Hip Hop Atlanta in 2020. Additionally, his song Cold Blooded was featured on ABC’s cop drama The Rookie.
