Here’s the latest from the crossroads of faith, media & culture: 11/01/21

It’s a wonderful life. Kelly Lang, seen and heard above delivering a powerful live tribute performance of her hit song I’m Not Going Anywhere honoring cancer fighters and care givers, is a prolific singer/songwriter from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, who has called Hendersonville, Tennessee home since moving there as a child. Growing up in country music, her father, Velton Lang, was the longtime road manager for superstar Conway Twitty. Being around great legends in the music business gave Kelly the burning desire to pursue her own personal music career. As a songwriter, she has had a stellar career with her songs being recorded by such legendary artists as Ricky Skaggs, Lorrie Morgan, The Oak Ridge Boys, Crystal Gayle, George Jones, B.J. Thomas, Jimmy Fortune, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Lee and her husband singer/songwriter TG Sheppard.

She has also performed and recorded duets with icons like Sir Barry Gibb, Dame Olivia Newton-John, Paul Shaffer, and Lee Greenwood. As an artist, Lang has released several albums including 11:11, Shades of K, Throwback, Obsession, and Iconic Duets. In the spring of 2020, Lang re-released her popular children’s album Lullaby Country. Her latest solo project, Old Soul is available now.

Also available now is her new autobiography I’m Not Going Anywhere (with autographed copies available via KellyLang.net). In the book Lang, a 17-year breast cancer survivor, shares her journey of healing that brought her through the ups and downs of life, a journey that includes her love story with Sheppard. With a foreword being written by friend and fellow breast cancer survivor Olivia Newton-John, the book provides life lessons and showcases Lang’s positive attitude during some of the most trying times. Placing emphasis on her faith in God, she hopes her story provides both comfort and hope to readers of all walks of life as they face their own challenges. She’s also excited to be hosting a live virtual book signing and discussion on November 11 at 7:00 PM (CT) on Facebook at @KellyLangMusic.

“Writing my memoir has been a roller coaster of emotions,” shares Lang. “I was able to revisit my early years starting out in the music business, learning valuable lessons along life’s highway. I really went deep into how it felt to hit a brick wall with a diagnosis of cancer and what I did to overcome and rise above since that terrible experience. I hope that my journey will be helpful to anyone who may face any battle in their life and perhaps be a ray of light as they fight their way through any crisis. It was so cathartic to be able to tell my truth and share my story in such a bold way. It was important to have this book completed (by October) to honor Breast Cancer Awareness Month.”

Her song I’m Not Going Anywhere can also be heard throughout the United States as the official anthem for the Ascension Hospital commercial.

Lang’s I’m Not Going Anywhere single continues to resonate with many across the country as part of Ascension Hospital national campaign. While based on her own personal experience, she wrote the song as a tribute unwavering love itself. While witnessing a close friend struggle through health issues, she noticed how his wife made sure to reassure him that she would always be there for him. She related to the dedication it takes to remain by someone’s side “in sickness and in health” and certainly appreciates how her own husband steadfastly held her hand – offering mental and physical support – throughout her entire breast cancer ordeal.
