Here’s the latest from the crossroads of faith, media & culture: 02/01/23

Following a successful opening week Fathom Events has extended the theatrical run of Left Behind: Rise of the Antichrist. The biblically-themed suspense film will remain in select theaters nationwide through next Wednesday (02/08) at select locations. The movie opened in theaters nationwide on Thursday (o1/26) and exceeded box office expectations, surpassing the three-million dollar mark and finishing eighth overall at the weekend box office this weekend.

Talking about the extension, star/director Kevin Sorbo (whom I talked to prior to the film’s release) expressed appreciation to the moviegoers, saying “The reaction to this film has been overwhelming…Thank you to those who bought tickets and wrote thousands of positive reviews on social media. If you listen to what people have been saying after watching Left Behind, you’ll know this is a movie with an urgent message that the world needs to hear.”

The movie is the next chapter of the hit Left Behind apocalyptic film franchise based on The New York Times bestselling book series of the same name. You can purchase tickets to the here.

Faith in The Chosen. Meanwhile, strong demand has led Fathom Events to approve an extension of the theatrical release of the Season 3 finale of the worldwide hit TV series The Chosen. Originally planned as a twoday Fathom Event this weekend (02/02 & 02/03), theaters are now extending that run through February 6th. Tickets are available here.

As reported previously in this space, the Season 3 premiere of ongoing biblical drama about the life of Jesus Christ scored surprisingly strong box office results when it was released in theaters in November.

Heaven Sent streams on Pure Flix beginning Friday (02/03).  Faith film favorite Karen Abecrombie stars in and co-wrote (with Tara Lynn Marcelle) this faith-themed romantic fable about what happens when Elise (Abercrombie), a grandmother hurt by her past, meets Patrick (Leon Pridgen), a widowed pastor, who, like her, has basically closed the door on romantic love. Come on you know where this is going – which may very well be why you’ll enjoy it. It’s why they call these things feel-good films.
