Here’s today’s dispatch from the crossroads of faith, media and culture.

“Uplifting Entertainment” network grabs October Baby. GMC TV will present the world television premiere of the film starring John Schneider (Dukes of Hazzard, Smallville), Jasmine Guy (A Different World), Jason Burkey and newcomer Rachel Hendrix as a college freshman/abortion survivor who sets out on a search for her birth mother.  The movie is set for Sunday, October 14 at 7, 9 and 11 p.m., with encore broadcasts on Sunday, October 21 at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.  All times are eastern.

For those of you who may not know the story, here’s the synopsis: When Hannah (Rachel Hendrix), suddenly collapses on stage during a production, she confronts her parents about her health-challenged medical history. She discovers that she is the survivor of a late-term abortion and that her parents, Jacob and Grace (John Schneider and Jennifer Price) are actually her adopted parents.  Shell-shocked, she decides to go on a road trip with her friends but detours from the group with her long-time pal and confidant, Jason (Jason Burkey), to track down her biological mother (Shari Rigby).  Jasmine Guy (Nurse Mary) stars as the nurse who witnessed Hannah’s birth years before.

“I’ve written, produced or directed hundreds of millions of dollars of successful Hollywood content and I’ve never seen a more profound reaction to a movie,” says Dave Alan Johnson (whose TV credits include PAX-TV’s Doc) about the film he executive produced.  “The cast is powerful, with a ‘tour de force’ performance from newcomer Rachel Hendrix. Jon and Andy Erwin are major talents and have directed a very compelling and entertaining movie.”

GMC TV can be seen in more than 56 million homes on various cable systems around the country, as well as DISH Network on channel 188, DIRECTV on channel 338 and Verizon FiOS on channel 224.

Note: I will be away for one week tending to other business. This blog will resume with new posts daily on Tuesday, October 16. God bless, everybody.
