Cynthia Weil, a Grammy-winning songwriter who co-wrote “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling” and “On Broadway” has passed away at the age of 82. Her representative released a statement confirming her passing saying, “It is with deep sadness that we learned of the passing of our dear friend and colleague, Cynthia Weil, an indelible and unforgettable voice of American popular music. Her important contributions to American songwriting over the past five decades will remain with us for always, as will the memory of this truly great artist. May her memory be a blessing.” Her cause of death is unknown.

Throughout her career, Weil collaborated with many popular musicians such as Dolly Parton on “Here You Come Again,” and George Benson’s “On Broadway.” Before her death, Weil had a long-lasting marriage with husband Barry Mann. The pair tied the knot in 1961 and became a powerful duo in the music industry. Weil and Mann both worked on the song “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling” which quickly became a hit, topping the charts in 1965. In 2010, Weil and Mann were both inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame by Carole King.

Growing up, Weil studied piano and ballet before she studied theatre at Sarah Lawrence University. While in college, an agent encouraged her to try songwriting and by age 20, she was working for the publishing company, “Guys and Dolls” with composer Frank Loesser.
