“American Idol” recently honored Christian singer Mandisa in a televised performance. Former “Idol” star Melinda Doolittle, Danny Gokey, and Colton Dixon joined together to perform the gospel hit “Shackles (Praise You)” in a heartwarming tribute that received a standing ovation from judges Luke Bryan, Katy Pery, and Lionel Richie and applause from the studio audience.

Mandisa sang the same song in 2006 during her time on the fifth season of “Idol” before finishing in ninth place. Gokey, Doolittle, and Dixon each spoke after the performance, showering praise upon Mandisa and telling the audience a bit about their friendships with the late singer. “She was a fan of people,” Gokey said, noting how Mandisa cared for others. “She was a cheerleader for other people’s music.”

Dixon said “Shackles,” in many ways, summed up Mandisa’s entire life. “I think she came in praising,” he said. “I think she left praising. So, we’re going to miss her, but our loss is heaven’s gain.” Mandisa, who was 47, was found dead on April 18. It will reportedly take a few weeks — and perhaps even months — before an official cause of death is released.

Continue to pray for Mandisa’s friends and loved ones as they mourn her loss.
