In a poignant and powerful service held at Roopville Road Baptist Church in Georgia on August 6, the Gospel music community came together to mourn the loss of three beloved members of The Nelons. The celebration of life honored the memory of Jason and Kelly Nelon Clark, their daughter, Amber Nelon Kistler, and her husband, Nathan Kistler, who tragically perished in a plane crash on July 26. They were en route to the Gaither Homecoming Cruise to Alaska when the accident occurred.

The crash also claimed the lives of pilots Larry and Melissa Haynie and the music ensemble’s assistant, Melodi Hodges. The devastating loss has left a profound void in the hearts of many, especially for Autumn Nelon Streetman, the only surviving member of The Nelons.

Streetman, grappling with the unimaginable grief of losing her parents and sister, addressed the congregation with a heartfelt recitation and prayer during Tuesday’s service. Her words resonated deeply with those present, encapsulating the pain, faith, and resilience that define her journey.

“I do believe that God gives us something that’s worth trusting, and that is Him and Him alone,” Streetman said. “In a matter of three minutes, my entire life changed. My precious family, my friends, my livelihood—gone, with no warning.” Her raw honesty and unwavering faith in the face of such tragedy touched everyone in attendance.

Pregnant with her first child, Streetman poignantly noted that her unborn baby boy, due in December, “will never know his family on this side of heaven.” Despite this heart-wrenching reality, she has chosen to place her trust in God rather than succumb to anger or despair. “Every day, I’ve asked God why this happened, and then I’m reminded that He told us, ‘In this world we would have trouble,'” she continued. “So, I changed my ‘Why’ into, ‘Then, what now, God? How do you get the glory in the midst of this tragedy?’ My choice is to trust Him fully.”

Streetman’s steadfast faith amid such overwhelming loss serves as a powerful testament to her belief in God’s plan. “God has entrusted me with a legacy to carry on,” she declared. “And I will seek His will and guidance.” Her words not only comforted those in mourning but also inspired many to find strength in their faith during times of adversity.

The service also featured a deeply moving performance by the Gospel group The Isaacs, who sang their song “Family Chain,” a ballad about the promises of heaven. In a moment of profound emotion, Streetman joined them on stage to honor her family. The performance was a poignant reminder of the enduring bonds of family and faith, even in the face of heart-wrenching loss.

As the service drew to a close, Streetman led a prayer, encapsulating her hope and trust in God’s plan. Her resilience and faith were palpable, offering a beacon of light to all who were grieving. “God’s in control,” she affirmed, looking forward to the “promise of heaven.”

The tragedy has not only affected the Nelon family but has also sent ripples through the entire Gospel music community. The outpouring of support and prayers for Streetman and her loved ones underscores the deep bonds that unite this community. Streetman’s faith and determination to carry on her family’s legacy provide a powerful example of how one can find strength and hope in faith, even in the darkest of times.

As the Gospel music community continues to mourn the loss of Jason, Kelly, Amber, and Nathan, they also celebrate their lives and contributions to the world of Gospel music. The Nelons’ legacy of faith, love, and music will undoubtedly continue to inspire and uplift countless individuals for years to come.

In the midst of this sorrow, the community is reminded of the words of comfort and hope found in the Gospel and the promise of eternal life. As they come together to support Streetman and each other, they embody the strength and resilience that faith provides.

Please continue to pray for Autumn Nelon Streetman and her extended family, friends, and the Gospel music community as they navigate this difficult journey. Their collective faith and support for one another serve as a powerful reminder of the enduring power of love and faith in overcoming life’s greatest challenges.
