Shannen Doherty’s mother, Rosa, recently spoke out for the first time after the loss of her daughter. Rosa shared a statement with People remembering her daughter, who passed away on July 13th after a long battle with cancer. “She is my beautiful girl and my heart,” Rosa said. “Our family wants to thank everyone who has shown love and support for our Shannen throughout her life. We are truly appreciative.”
Shannen’s journey with cancer began in 2015 when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. In 2017, the actress announced that she was in remission, but the cancer unfortunately returned in 2020 as metastatic stage 4 cancer. Shannen’s longtime publicist, Leslie Sloane, confirmed the news of her passing on July 14th in a statement saying, “It is with a heavy heart that I confirm the passing of actress Shannen Doherty. On Saturday, July 13, she lost her battle with cancer after many years of fighting the disease. The devoted daughter, sister, aunt and friend was surrounded by her loved ones as well as her dog, Bowie. The family asks for their privacy at this time so they can grieve in peace.”
When Shannen received her latest cancer diagnosis, she shared that she was more worried for her mother. “I don’t think that there’s a decision that I make that I don’t take [my mom] into consideration. I love her, and I am so incredibly grateful to her for being an amazing mother,” she told People. “I take my brother into consideration and his children, my dog, my animals.” In April, just months before her death, the “Charmed” actress spoke about how she prioritized her mother amid her health struggles. “Because it’s going to be so hard on her, I want other things to be a lot easier,” she said at the time. “I don’t want her to have a bunch of stuff to deal with. I don’t want her to have four storage units filled with furniture.”
