Steve Legg, one of England’s most cherished Christian comedians, has passed away at the age of 57 after a 17-month-long battle with cancer. His wife, Bekah, and their children were by his side when he died on Monday at Worthing Hospital, located on the southern coast of England.

Steve Legg was more than just a comedian; he was a source of joy, faith, and encouragement for countless people both in the Christian community and beyond. Born in Bournemouth, Legg began his career in 1988 as an escapologist, but he was best known for creatively using comedy and magic tricks to share the Gospel. His unique brand of humor and message of hope took him to five continents, where he performed in churches and at events around the world.

Bekah Legg, who was married to Steve for 16 years, offered a heartfelt tribute in an exclusive comment to “Christian Daily International”. “Steve was one of a kind and the best of men. And I am so grateful I could call him mine for 16 years. His love and joy and relentless cheerleading encouraged me to do things I never could have imagined. But it wasn’t just me; he did that for so many people. He leaves a legacy in the lives of all those he met and believed in.”

The couple shared a large and loving family, including five daughters, one son, and a granddaughter. As they mourn the loss of their husband, father, and grandfather, they are comforted by the incredible legacy Steve left behind.

Steve Legg’s career was nothing short of remarkable. Over the years, his comedic talents earned him appearances on television and radio shows such as “The Big Breakfast”, “The Disney Club”, Radio 2, and Radio 5 Live. His ability to seamlessly blend humor and faith earned him widespread admiration, with well-known figures like adventurer Bear Grylls calling him “hilarious” and TV presenter Jonathan Ross describing him as “very clever indeed.”

He also graced prestigious stages across the United Kingdom, performing at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham, the Royal Albert Hall in London, and the Odyssey in Belfast, among many other renowned venues. Beyond his comedy and performances, Legg served as the editor of “Sorted”, a Christian men’s magazine, and authored several books, including “The Last Laugh Journal: 22 Reflections to Help You Find Your Way to a Happier, Healthier Life”.

Though Legg was a man of humor, he faced his final days with a deep sense of faith and peace. Just five days before his passing, he shared an update with his friends and followers on Facebook, using his signature wit to lighten the gravity of his situation. He wrote, “Hey friends. I wanted to let you know that I came into the hospital in an ambulance on Tuesday (which was exciting) because I was in a lot of pain (less exciting). Scans have shown that the melanoma the Docs first found three years ago has spread again, and a large tumor in my bowel has caused a perforation.”

With honesty and humor, Legg explained that surgery wasn’t an option, and he was relying on morphine and antibiotics to manage the pain. “But we’ve been warned this could be an ‘end of life’ event,” he shared. Yet, even in the face of death, Steve emphasized the love and faith that surrounded him: “God has been with us throughout as our family has held each other, come home from far away and in the extraordinary kindness of family and friends.”

Bekah Legg’s tribute reflected the deep loss and sadness the family feels, as well as their faith in God’s plan. In a public statement, she said, “Saying goodbye to Steve was the hardest thing that we have ever had to do, and we already miss him more than words can say.” She shared a poignant moment when the family left the hospital, describing how a glorious sunset lit up the sky. To Bekah, it was a sign that “the heavens [were] literally lighting up to welcome a precious son home.”

“We never wanted this day to come, but we are glad this last week is over, and Steve is safe now with no more tears or pain. He died knowing he was loved by so many, and now he is with the one who loves him most. There is enormous comfort in that.”

While funeral details have yet to be announced, Steve Legg’s legacy of joy, faith, and relentless cheer will undoubtedly live on in the hearts of those he touched. He brought laughter to thousands, using his God-given gifts not only to entertain but to share the hope of the Gospel. His life serves as a powerful reminder that even in our darkest moments, God’s love shines brightly.

As Bekah so beautifully put it, Steve is now with the One who loves him most, resting in eternal peace.
