We all have dreams, big-picture life goals that we imagine will, someday, come true. Sometimes, though, those dreams actually hold us back, keep us from moving ahead with our lives because all we’re doing is dwelling on how they haven’t come to fruition.
Here’s a lovely verse from Ella Wheeler Wilcox on releasing old dreams to make room for new ones.
“Let the dream go. Are there not other dreams
In vastness of clouds hid from thy sight
That yet shall gild with beautiful gold gleams,
And shoot the shadows through and through with light?
What matters one lost vision of the night?
Let the dream go!….”
(Quoted in “Silver Linings: Meditations on Finding Joy and Beauty in Unexpected Places“)
Have you ever let go of a big dream? What was it like?
