squirmy.jpgYesterday, I wrestled all day with an acute case of fidgety-itis.  The squirms.  The squiggles.  The heebie-jeebies.  The bouncy-leg tango.

I have no idea where my inability to sit still came from.  It was a rainy day, usually an energy-suppressor.  Work was in high gear, but no more than usual.  And I know it wasn’t anxiety, because the telltale palm-dampness and thought-spiraling were blessedly absent.

I was just jumpy, squiggly, and squirmy.

I put the question to my Facebook friends–what do you do to get over inexplicable fidgets?

They had fun, helpful suggestions:

  • Recess!  (thanks, Valerie)
  • Jungle gym, for sure
  • Valium
  • Chamomile tea

I came up with some more to add:

  • Jumping jacks
  • 10 giant, oversized breaths
  • A walk around the block
  • Go with the energy surge, and cross 5 things off ye olde to-do list

So now it’s your turn.  What do you do when you just have a day when you feel itchy for you-don’t-know-what?  How do you differentiate between anxiety and high energy?  Please share your secrets!
