So sad. Lynn Redgrave has died at age 67. According to CNN, her children released this statement:
“Our beloved mother Lynn Rachel passed away peacefully after a seven year journey with breast cancer,” the children – Ben, Pema and Annabel – said in a statement. “She lived, loved and worked harder than ever before. The endless memories she created as a mother, grandmother, writer, actor and friend will sustain us for the rest of our lives.”
What jumps out at me is this: “…passed away peacefully after a seven year journey with breast cancer.” Not a “battle” that was “lost,” but a “journey” that ended peacefully. I love and admire that phrasing and the depth of consciousness it implies.
I also admire the amazing actress who is now free after a journey that was not always so peaceful–one that was lovingly and gorgeously documented by her daughter in a 2004 book of photos, “Journal: A Mother and Daughter’s Recovery from Breast Cancer.” That book (the cover picture is at left) helped me through my own cancer journey–Lynn looked so full of grace, so strong, whole, and beautiful even while she was clearly going through some serious hell. I wish her the sweet heaven (whatever that may look like) she so deeply deserves. Many blessings to her family. Peace.
