With the avalanche of stories about Romney’s so-called Mormon problem, God-o-Meter almost forgot that being an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints also has benefits for White House aspirants. After all, Romney has raised more money in Utah than in any other state besides California. And, The Salt Lake Tribune reports, the campaign believes there’s plenty more where that came from. In what the Tribune says “may mark the most overt attempt by Romney to seek financial support from members of his religion,” Romney has paid LDS Living magazine to send a fundraising pitch to its readers. A Romney flak coyly attributed his strong Utah support to the fact that “it was the location for one of his greatest accomplishments, having turned the Salt Lake City Olympic Games of 2002 into a magnificent success,” but that just makes God-o-Meter wonder: how worried is the campaign that more stories about Romney’s Mormon-based fundraising will exacerbate his “Mormon problem?”
