On Meet The Press yesterday, Tom Brokaw asked Rudy Giuliani yesterday about whether he was too hard on Barack Obama’s community organizer roots, holding up a pin that reads “Jesus Christ was a Community Organizer. Pontius Pilot was a Governor.”
Ever notice that though Democrats have traditionally been more reluctant than Republicans to bring faith into politics, but when they do, they often get real literal and often invoke Jesus Christ by name?
Responding to an immigration bill in 2006, Hillary Clinton said “It is certainly not in keeping with my understanding of the scriptures, because this bill would literally criminalize the Good Samaritan and probably even Jesus himself.”
How many times have you heard conservatives invoke Jesus by name around issues like abortion or gay marriage? Is it because they’re so worried about being branded theocrats that they’re careful not to invoke New Testament figures in the political arena?
